Hotel & Spa * RSA
The Mount Grace Hotel & Spa in South Africa was in dire need of a face-lift. While still luxurious, the design was dated and needed to be brought into the 21st century. The brief requested that all existing items were re-used to make sure there was limited waste and that the budget was not exceeded. While working for LLP Design (www.llpdesign.net) in Johannesburg, Sam threw herself head first into this project where she managed the FF&E process that saw chairs and sofas re-upholstered, tables stained and painted, paintings re-framed and rooms gutted and fully refurbished.
In the end, 81 existing units were refurbished and the restaurants, bar, lounge and kitchen areas were completely renovated. 41 new rooms (12 luxury villas and 29 luxury rooms), a new conference centre, reception and administration block were also added. The refurbishment has received widespread acclaim fro preserving the classical theme and enhancing the design with the introduction of contemporary fabrics and colours.
